The idea of citizen science activities, where ordinary citizens assist or participate in the creation of scientific knowledge, is presented as full of promise for advancing many fields of research.  In this talk Dr Ernima Ochu, Wellcome Trust Engagement Fellow, draws on the experience of a series of recent projects to highlight ways in which citizen participation in the design and carrying out of projects can bring benefits for community development.
