On Microperformance in Biological Experimentation

Speaker: Hans-Jörg Rheinberger # Max-Planck-Institute for the History of Science, Berlin

23rd Sep 2019

15:00 - 17:00

Violet Laidlaw Room

In my talk, I will discuss some micro-features of experimentation in the life sciences. I will start by briefly exposing a particular experimental culture, the culture of in vitro experimentation. I will have a close look at two examples of micro-preparations with their peculiar micro-performativity, one taken from phage genetics, and the other from molecular sequencing.

Co-hosted with the Seminar for History, Science, Technology and Medicine (HCA)

Hans-Jörg Rheinberger is Professor for the History of Science at TU Berlin and Emeritus Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for History of Science, Berlin
