Science, Technology and Innovation Studies research rated 1st in UK by national research assessment
Science, Technology and Innovation Studies (STIS) - together with Sociology - at the University of Edinburgh has today (18 December) been rated as first* in the UK for its quality and breadth of research, in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF2014). In addition to its 1st place ranking using the respected Research Fortnight "Power Index", the alternate Times Higher Education "research power" index also ranks STIS as top in the UK.
This UK-wide assessment of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) has also reported the following, excellent assessment of STIS (and Sociological) research at Edinburgh:
- 83% has been identified as being "world leading" or "internationally excellent".
- 54 % of the wider societal and economic impact derived from the research has been assessed as "outstanding".
- 63% of the research environment has been judged to be "world-leading", whilst the remainder is "internationally excellent".
Speaking about the REF2014 rankings Professor Steve Sturdy, Head of Science, Technology and Innovation Studies at the University of Edinburgh, said:
